A major technical disruption at Namecheap has left customers experiencing widespread problems with websites, hosting, DNS, email and access to their accounts.

The disruption began on Thursday, 13 August 2026, with reports indicating that a failure at a Phoenix data centre affected a significant portion of Namecheap’s infrastructure. More than 5,000 servers were reportedly taken offline as part of measures to prevent further hardware damage.

As a result, The Updated World’s main website, online store and app have also been affected, limiting access for some readers and customers.

The Updated World apologises to its readers and customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption. The technical issue is outside the platform’s direct control, and the team is monitoring the situation as Namecheap works to restore affected services.

Customers have reported difficulties accessing hosted websites, cPanel, Namecheap’s account dashboard and other services. DNS disruptions have also created wider problems because websites hosted elsewhere can still be affected when their domains use Namecheap’s DNS infrastructure.

Private Email services have also experienced interruptions, affecting both incoming and outgoing messages, while email forwarding and URL redirection services have been among the other functions impacted.

Namecheap’s official status page continues to list scheduled maintenance affecting some of its hosting infrastructure, although those planned maintenance notices are separate from the broader outage reports. The company had also scheduled software maintenance on selected shared servers for 14 August, with expected temporary downtime on the affected servers.
