Rundu – A heartwarming tale of determination unfolded at the Rundu Sports Stadium during the memorial service for Namibia's Founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma. Among the mourners stood John Kakuwa, a 13-year-old orphan whose extraordinary 200-kilometer journey captured the hearts of many.

Kakuwa, who lives with his grandmother in the Divundu area, made the long trip to pay his final respects to the late leader. His story, first highlighted by Eagle FM, drew the attention of Kavango East Region Governor Bonifatius Wakudumo and Mukwe Constituency Councillor Damian Maghambayi. They introduced the boy to the crowd, prompting an outpouring of support.

Touched by his resilience, mourners pledged N$31,500 to help Kakuwa return to school. Among those moved by his determination were family members of the late Nujoma, as well as community leaders and ordinary citizens attending the service.

Kavango East Director of Education Christine Shilima confirmed that Kakuwa will be enrolled in a school near his home starting Monday. The young boy, who had previously dropped out due to financial struggles, expressed disbelief and gratitude for the unexpected support.

“I never thought I’d get the chance to go back to school,” Kakuwa shared, thanking everyone who contributed to his future.

His journey, fueled by hope and admiration for a national hero, has now opened new doors for him, proving that determination and compassion can indeed change lives.
