A 57-year-old woman is facing a possible murder charge following the death of a 51-year-old woman after an alleged altercation at Onyelelo village in the Okaku area of the Oshana region.
The victim died on Wednesday morning while receiving treatment at Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital, where she had been admitted in critical condition after the incident on Sunday.
According to Oshana regional police commander, Commissioner Naftal Sakaria, the deceased had gone to her boyfriend’s residence and reportedly found his wife alone at the house. A confrontation allegedly erupted between the two women.
During the dispute, the suspect allegedly punched the victim once, resulting in a bruised eye. The injured woman was rushed to hospital, but her condition deteriorated in the days that followed.
Sakaria said the matter was only reported to the police on Tuesday after the victim’s family initially declined to open a case.
The suspect was initially charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH). However, police indicated that the charge is expected to be upgraded to murder following the victim’s death.
Police investigations are continuing.
