Three men accused of killing 21-year-old Florencia Jacobs have been denied bail in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court.
Magistrate Elphine Maloboka ruled that Petrus Tsuaseb, Germanus Oreseb and Theodor Tjikongo will remain in custody following their arrest in connection with Jacobs’ murder, which allegedly took place on 31 January.
During their initial court appearance, Tsuaseb informed the court that he intends to apply for legal aid. His co-accused, Oreseb and Tjikongo, chose to represent themselves despite being cautioned by the magistrate about the gravity of the murder charge they face.
Public Prosecutor Vanessa Sinvula opposed the granting of bail, arguing that the seriousness of the offence, the ongoing nature of the police investigations and considerations of public interest justified keeping the accused behind bars.
The matter has been postponed to 18 June to allow for further investigations and to give the court time to receive feedback regarding Tsuaseb’s legal aid application.
